The Wauwatosa Theology

The Wauwatosa Theology is a 1-book series first released in 1997 with contributions by COMPILING EDITOR CURTIS A. JAHN, August Pieper, and John Schaller.

Comprehensive collection of the works of three leading American Lutheran exegetical theologians (J. P. Koehler, August Pieper, and John Schaller) in the early 20th Century. Their work relied comparatively more on exegetical work than on dogmatic claims within conservative, confessional German-American Lutheranism. Their work formed the theological tenor for what became the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) and were more willing to stand separate from 20C modernist currents in American life than their larger confessional sibling, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
