This is a rather quick read. It's great if you want to use it to read aloud, especially with younger children. It keeps them interested in what's going on in the story and eager to know what's next.
In terms of science fiction, this is a good book for someone who is still unfamiliar with the genre. The worldbuilding does a good job of not being too distracting from the plot. It doesn't overwhelm the reader with unnecessary information.
In terms of characters, we do get a good range of them. Although the majority of them tend to be robots, they all have different personalities and range in emotions.
Overall, it was interesting and I would continue reading the series even without using it as a reading material for tutoring.
Fantastic series. The story is great, as is the art. Imaginative characters and storyline. Good for ages 8 and up.
This is a really interesting graphic novel. It went a little faster than I anticipated, but I'm curious to see where it will go in the next volume.
This is a cute adventure series that is loads of fun to read, but not much appeal for adult readers except for the just the sheer fun of it. I love the creatures (Zita's spaceship is probably my favorite) and the expressions Zita makes at times. This is the perfect series for Emma who loved Cleopatra In Space!
I. Loved. This. LOVED IT!
First off, the illustrations are absolutely wonderful. They're simple, yet vibrant, and they pull you into the story easily. Zita is so darn cute! In fact every character depicted in these pages has their own little flair. I love when the illustrations create voices in my head for each character. These did just that! It makes following along with this rag-tag group of adventurers that much more fun. I couldn't get enough!
Oh, and what a story. Zita is brave, and kind. She shows readers that doing the right thing isn't always easy. That friendship is important, and can be found in the unlikeliest of places. That being brave doesn't mean you're not scared, but that you persevere even though you are. I ate it up. Every panel, every piece of this story. It was all so perfect. I'd put this into the hands of a young reader in a heartbeat.
For certain people out there, who know who they are, there are robots in this one! So very much love for this first installment of Zita! I need the rest as soon as humanly possible, and you can bet your behind that I'll be buying these. If you haven't already read this, add it to your list. It's worth it!
Pros: fun protagonist, cute story, expressive artwork
Cons:
When Zita finds a strange device in a meteoroid and pushes the button on it her friend Joseph is pulled through the rift that opens. She reacts as any young girl would, by running away and pretending nothing bad just happened. Then she gathers her courage, pushes the button again, and jumps through the rift to go find her friend. Her quest to rescue Joseph takes her to an alien planet that's facing its final days.
Zita's a personable girl, with a lot of courage and heart. She makes friends easily, finding several creatures willing to help her out.
The artwork is very expressive, giving the characters a lot of personality to match the dialogue.
The plot is quick moving, with a few twists. Things wrap up well enough at the end of this comic, but there are 2 other books in the series, Legends of Zita the Spacegirl and Return of Zita the Spacegirl. The three books together make up the completed story arc.
This is a great kid friendly graphic novel that will inspire readers and hopefully encourage them to read more SF and fantasy adventures.
