Unable to stay on to high school, Tove starts her first job (which lasts only one day) and soon embarks on a varied and chequered career: as au pair, cleaner, stock-room assistant and office worker. My return to young Tove! We're in pre-WWII Copenhagen, Tove is 15, jobbing to help support her parents, freezing in unheated rooms, going to dancehalls and kissing in dark dark corners. She dreams of a room of her own, a room to write her poems. She seeks love, yet the young men don't interest her. She's a pragmatic. She learned that in relationships both parties want something from the other. She wants someone who can help her become a poet.
Still exquisite. Looking forward to part 3.
It was quite amazing, actually, to read Tove's excitement about her first publication while reading a published work of hers (although not poems) after reading 200 pages worth of her longing to be a writer.
Idk it made me emotional, like girl just you wait!!!
