I don't know if I would label Witch, Cat, and Cobb a romance. J.K. Pendragon tackles other issues and the romance seems to be the subplot.
Witch focuses on being who you are and having the ability to love who you want. One person runs away to avoid marrying a childhood friend and living a lie. Another runs away because they tried to live as they wanted and they could never cover the outside enough to live freely. And the other person in our trio also ran away to avoid a similar fate as the first person. Everyone runs away to be themselves and to live their true lives.
There are repercussions to these actions and the story deals with these issues. The past, present, and the unforeseeable future is what the book tells. Pendragon writes all of these characters with sensitivity, depth, and very little in the way of romance (laugh). This is why I think of it more as a friendship tale. The three people come together at a critical point in Brean's life and together try to make their truth real to everyone else.
It is a lovely tale with humor, sword fighting (laugh), and magic. Everyone has to have some magic and Witch, Cat, and Cobb provides this and more.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
