Whip Smart: A Memoir

I would give this a four if I didn't think those who take the time to read my reviews would take it the wrong way.

Very intriguing glimpse into the mind of an addictive dominatrix. Featured on NPR and by turns funny and complexly disturbing.

This was super compelling and well-written. I couldn't put it down! I thought the author did an excellent job exploring the psychology behind submission, as well as examining her own reactions to it.

Was it kink-shamey? Sure. But the author acknowledges that and explores WHY, which is part of what I thought made this so good.

Somehow rode the line between exactly what I expected and not what I expected. A bit like holding a mirror up, in the way that it is both you and the reverse of you - or at least the way you perceive yourself.
