I received this book through netgalley in exchange for an honest review

This book.. this book. I have so many emotions right now!!

Okay, let me start off by saying I was hesitant about reading this book, especially since it is the second in the series and I haven't read the first. Thankfully, reading the first isn't required, although I'm sure if I read it I might understand some of the background information.

Now, this really is a YA book. These teenagers act like teenagers for the most part and, it can be confusing and annoying but then, that is high school and it seems realistic to me.
The characters are all pretty distinct. I like some of them and others seem very 2D. It took me a while to connect to the main character, Ingrid, and some of the others like LD and Billie. The other love interest Micah, I totally couldn't connect to.

Which brings us to the romance. Nightowl x Dark was beautiful. Ingrid and her problems will make you cry, I did. Her romance not so much but, these things take time and I feel this book really gives the time to build the love. No insta-love here.

Plot-wise, I was concerned- almost tricked!, with the ending. Predictable? Slightly but, so beautiful.

I was calling this book sweet and charming before and while it still is, there are those dark and sad moments that really tug on your heart.
I was cheering and egging Ingrid on to live her life. I was brought in to her life and wished I could just shake her. She is too kind.

I was sad we didn't get to see the friendship at it's greatest and we don't know how things will really work out but, I still liked it. This book is really like a snapshot of Ingrid's life. We just see this moment of her life where her whole life changes and there is no guarantee she will be okay.

Characters: 3/5 stars really. I don't know how else to explain. I'm just on the edge but, more leaning towards liking them.
Plot: Great story
Recommend: YES!! Really, if you like contemporary and want to see someone figure out what they will do with their life... give it a try.

I definitely want to read the first book now. Really.... if it was next to me I'd put everything else aside and dive in.
