Wow...

I have to admit that this isn't my type of book, but I've heard good things and there is an episode on it in Is It Teen Enough For You Now? AND they interviewed Nina LaCour, so I decided to read it.
When I requested it, I thought it was a graphic novel, so I was a little surprised when it turned out to be a regular book. I think it is the cover that looks to be in a graphic novel style that made me think the book would be too.

The writing in this book is absolutely gorgeous. It flows and dances around while not making the story feel too long or too short, even though the book is on the short side. The material is pretty heavy and the writing really gives it that gravity while reading each chapter seems like a slowly blooming flower. Truly, remarkable.

I don't care for the characters, but I think they were developed well and stand on their own. Not only that, but they all seem like they could be real people, which makes the story feel so real.
This is a beautiful story.

Subjectively: I was kinda bored because like I said, this isn't my kinda book (fast paced, snarky, funny, FUN) but it wasn't quiet enough to make me want to stop reading. I didn't really care if I stopped, but there are so many rave reviews, I kept going. About a quarter of the way in is when I got into the groove of the book and finally began to enjoy it. Again, this part here is very subjective because of the kinds of books I regularly read. I do think it is good to get out of the funk once in awhile, so I'm glad I read this book.

I would recommend this book to people grieving or feeling alone. People going through a change in their life (high school age +) should def also check this one out as well as anyone who likes beautiful writing, doesn't mind a quiet book with the potential to cry at the end.
