Vervolg op Carry On, en het begint min of meer “the day after” – de hoofdpersoon uit deel 1 heeft min of meer zijn “ding” gedaan (red de wereld, etc) en zit nu na afloop in een lichte depressie gevoed door een gevoel van nutteloosheid. Een road-trip naar Amerika moet daar verandering in brengen, om iemand uit de klauwen van een sekte te gaan redden. En: meer vampieren! Al met al leuker dan deel 1.

My favorite part about this book is that Baz doesn't look like he does because he's a vampire...it's because he's iron deficient lol
Definitely enjoyed this book more the second time around - maybe because I knew what to expect (and what not to) this time. It still hurt to watch these characters (especially Simon and Baz) stumble around and wonder if their relationship is salvageable. But that's mostly because I adore these characters.
That being said, I love books with the road trip trope. I loved Shepherd (maybe the best part of this book?? Well, him and Baz's fashion choices.) And I liked getting to see into after the “happily ever after” even if it wasn't so happy.
It was okay. However, the story felt too short and lacking in depth when compared to the first book in the trilogy
I love this story. This is the second book. Read the first one, even though you don't “have to”. It will make so much more sense.
The first part of this episode is hilarious - especially comparing and contrasting the different characters' reactions to traveling across America. The book also goes through a few rough patches. All in all, a good continuation. It ends with directly a call to book 3.
Baz is still my favorite. He's one of my all time favorite characters now.

Eu não sabia o que esperar deste livro, porque, tal como a própria premissa diz: o Simon já tinha derrotado o vilão. Ele e o Baz já estavam juntos. O que mais poderia haver para contar?
Não devia ter subestimado a Rainbow Rowell.
Do início até ao fim, não faltou aventura, nem dilemas, nem a tensão exatamente certa entre o Baz e o Simon para nós nos mantermos por um fio. Eu tenho um problema: eu adoro ler romance, mas só até à parte em que ficam juntos. Depois de ficarem... meh. Mas Wayward Son contornou isso de forma brilhante, ao manter-nos sempre em alerta e com atenção. E não precisou de trazer uma terceira pessoa para a equação para isso, o que é ainda melhor.
A história não é a mais incrível. Tal como no primeiro livro, é TUDO sobre os personagens. São eles que fazem a história mover-se, o nosso coração bater e os dedos virar a página. E o Simon e o Baz, bem... eu adoro-os. Adoro-os tanto.
E adorei este livro. Absolutamente. Para algumas pessoas, este foi o pior da trilogia. Para mim, foi o melhor. Porquê? Não faço ideia. Não consigo explicar. Apenas adorei.
Mirad, cuando yo leí reseñas me avecinaba lo peor para este libro. Pero ahora que lo leído puedo decir que ha superado mis expectativas, pero, no penséis que por eso es el mejor libro que he leído, sino que tenía las expectativas por el suelo.
El libro nos presenta la continuación de Carry On un libro que me pareció de 10. A mí sinceramente el libro no me ha aburrido en ningún momento y he podido leer el libro en 3 días sin ningún esfuerzo aunque tenía más cosas que hacer.
Me gusta mucho como avanza la historia de suceso a suceso y la historia me ha parecido super entretenido. Pero, pero, pero...
LO QUE MENOS ME GUSTÓ DEL LIBRO SPOILERS:
Es que o sea el romance me parece inexistente. Ha habido como 3 momentos de 5 páginas y YA. Y lo peor de todo es... EL FINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL
Yo no puedo... El final es demasiado abierto. Parece que la Rainbow Rowell le daba pereza escribir más y yasta. Y ahora tendré que esperar 1 o 2 años a que salga el libro (seguramente lo lea en español)
Y eso es todo, le doy 3.5/5
Fully realized characters and strong voices for each.
This is the story of what happens after the hero saves the day. And in this case, what happens after Simon saves the world, but discovers the abuse of the Mage. It's coming to terms with what he truly is.
Ms. Rowell is a genius.
It was very childish but also had a lot of gory scenes so it clashed with itself a lot. This story wasn't for me, I'll just go on pretending that carry on is a solo book <3
J'avais beaucoup aimé Carry On, le premier roman de cette série consacrée aux aventures de Simon Snow et ses amis. J'avais aimé l'hommage à Harry Potter et à l'univers des fan-fictions.
Ce deuxième roman de la série m'a ennuyé. A part quelques moments mignons ou sympathiques entre Simon et Baz, je n'ai pas réussi à accrocher à l'histoire, un long (interminable ?) road-trip à travers les États-Unis, avec des étapes et des embûches qui m'ont laissé de marbre.
J'ai abandonné après avoir lu presque deux tiers du livre, en me forçant longtemps, avant de réaliser que je n'avais pas tant que cela envie de connaître la fin.

I enjoyed this sequel a lot more, it reads less like a Harry Potter clone and more like its own world. Some reviews state that it has a different feel to it and I completely agree, but I feel it's an improvement. I went into the first book blind, not knowing it was an HP fanfiction, so it left me confused about why it was so popular and professionally published - however, I enjoyed the story and the characters so much I couldn't complain too much. I also read this one rather than audio at work (how I “read” the first one) so that might have made a difference in how much I got out of it as well.
The conflict between Simon and Baz was a little confusing because it seemed like it was just from Simon being depressed (and with good reason) and Baz not sure how to deal with it, but they should know each other a lot better than this book portrays after living together for all their formative years - even if they were “frienemies” most of that time. The side story with Agatha falls a bit flat but I think only because we spend so little time with her, maybe 2-3 chapters from her POV where the rest is Simon, et. al. and their road trip adventures. I'd actually like to know a little more about that group, and it was a complete surprise when they ended up being **ires, as well as more about all the stuff BTS of Las Vegas. Penny's little side drama with her internet boyfriend also seemed pointless and unnecessary, especially when we never hear about it again or see Penny really process it in a healthy way.
It's like Rowell knew that people were mostly here for Baz and Simon but felt she needed to shoehorn something for the ladies to do, but they were both basically McGuffins in this story. As I'm a reader here for Baz and Simon as well, I'm not complaining. The chapters from Baz' POV are my favourites, but I do enjoy all the characters and want to know more about the newly introduced ones too.
Overall, a really fun book but die-hard fans of the first may feel like it's missing something.
Euan Morton is an excellent audio narrator, making these books even more enjoyable thanks to his great acting. A little slow to start but another fun entry into this world. Ends on a predictable cliffhanger to take you into her planned third book. A fun diversion.

easy to read as with all of rowell's books but overall left me wanting especially re: baz and simon's relationship issues
Watch me freak out at nearly 5am because I just read this book in five hours and it was absolutely AMAZING??? Not that I'm surprised at its quality but I am surprised at the speed with which I read it.
Oh my god. Oh my god! Oh my fucking god!!!!!!
I mean, to everyone who read this book on the day it came out and the following two(????) weeks and kept it a secret that it was a middle book (which it very obviously is), is just fucking awesome of you! With the announcement of a third installment I don't have to worry, but damn, everyone else did so good on not spoiling that!
There were just so many moments, and feelings, and Simon, and Baz, and Penelope, and Baz, and Agatha, and Baz!!!!!!
MY ENTIRE REVIEW OF THIS BOOK COULD LITERALLY JUST BE EXCLAMATION POINTS AND THAT WOULD BE ENTIRELY FUCKING TRUE.
Our beloved characters are so out of their depth here and it brings forward the most wonderful qualities. Simon shines, his seven years of getting alive out of every life or death situation ever is so obvious in this, I mean his skill!! How can this dude even be thinking he's any kind of worthless when he can literally do THAT.
And OH THE FEELS. First of all, I love our friend group. Secondly, I was CONSTANTLY wondering who the fuck I could trust in this entire book because everyone in America is SO. SUSPICIOUS. ALL. THE. TIME.
The humor was on point at all times, so many absolutely hilarious moments! Baz getting a suitcase dropped on him?? I LITERALLY NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT- just, there was so many funny moments and lines. The way Baz so dryly delivers ‘I am every sort of under the weather.' gives me liiiiiiiiiiiife.
I'm very much having a hard time really expressing my feelings about this book but know that I really really really really really really REALLY loved it, okay, I REALLY LOVED IT, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SAY THIS ENOUGH, IT WAS JUST SO WONDERFULLY GOOD AND I ABSOLUTELY NEED THE NEXT ONE ASAP.
I liked this a lot (and devoured it all in 24 hours). I wish...for more of it? I loved the idea of American magic and the continued exploration of this excellent magic system, and I appreciated the emotional fallout of all the events of Carry On, but...well, yeah, want more of it. And definitely seemed to be setting up a 3rd book so perhaps my wish will be fulfilled! And I mean not only in terms of wanting a sequel (though of course, I do), but just...more. but I suppose that's a good problem to have.
