Very slight and not up to Tyler's usual standards. I'm not sure it's possible to update Taming of the Shrew successfully in a way that would be palatable to today's audience. Kate is more of a sullen doormat than a shrew, and Pyotr remains a cipher. The famous speech at the conclusion about wives submitting to their husbands turns into a plea for women to understand that men aren't allowed to have emotions and that women should have more patience with them. Huh?

Vinegar Girl is a quick read but I would have been better off re-reading one of Tyler's classics such as Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant or The Accidental Tourist.
