Set in Oldcastle, the setting for MacBride's Ash Henderson series, each story takes place in the run-up to Christmas.
The characters include some of the most gruesome you could have the misfortune to meet. Burglars, drug addicts, loan sharks, and paedophiles. Their lives are sordid, their crimes brutal. The stories would be grim, if not for MacBride's dark humour.
I thoroughly enjoyed this not-so-merry Christmas read.
