I went in blind with this series —I didn't even read the summary before grabbing it on Kindle. Overall, I really enjoyed the plot and story. The fast pace was a big plus for me, though my usual complaint with reverse harem books applies here: the accumulation of too many love interests, which often results in limited screen time for individual characters.

That said, I really appreciate that the FMC doesn't have “explicit” scenes with every love interest. The author kept her character and background in mind, which felt true to the story. I also enjoyed the different POVs, especially the ones like Clare's and the unknown witch's—I'm eager to find out who they are in the next installment.

One aspect that did get tiring after a while was the repeated emphasis on “this is a sensitive society, men are pigs, and sexist.” As readers, I think we understand this point early on, and it doesn't need to be reiterated so often. Actions and dialogue already make it clear, so I felt the overuse of this theme became distracting. My hope is that it will be toned down in future books.

I finished the first book and jumped straight into the second, only to be distraught that the third book isn't out yet! I've also read the Artemis series (some books multiple times. I'm mentioningthis because I read the afterword in the first book), so I recognize Erin Flynn's style here. While I enjoyed the Artemis series, I don't compare it to this one, as the stories and FMCs are completely different. I sincerely hope the author continues writing these books.

My biggest complaint, however, is Wyatt. I really dislike his character and their interactions. He reminds me of Craftsman, which I also didn't enjoy. I don't think the FMC needed someone like him in her life, but at least this storyline didn't drag on like it did with Craftsman.

I'm excited for the next book and love the inclusion of the familiars in the story. I hope for more interactions and to see how the FMC evolves. I'm especially curious about the hint that she might not “mate/marry” her current love interests—that's an intriguing twist.

In the meantime, while I wait with bated breath for the next book, I'll definitely revisit some of my favorite Erin Flynn reads. This was an easy page-turner, and I can't wait to see what's next!
