Detective Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a senseless crime - an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. This is Peabody's first case as primary detective - good thing she learned from the master. But Peabody soon stumbles upon a trickier situation. After a hard workout, she's all alone in the locker room when the gym door clatters open - and while hiding inside a shower stall trying not to make a sound, she overhears two fellow officers, Garnet and Oberman, arguing. It doesn't take long to realize they're both crooked - guilty not just of corruption but murder. Now Peabody, Eve, and her husband Roarke are trying to get the hard evidence they need to bring the dirty cops down - knowing all the while that the two are willing to kill to keep their secret.

It's finally starting to get to me. The same-ness that is the In Death series.
It's still good writing, still good stories, but it's so very predictable that it kind of gets boring. There are a few motions of branching out, Peabody taking the primary role on a case, but so far it's not quite enough.
We know that someone is going to die and Eve is going to bring in Feeney & McNabb and they'll work with Roarke. Then she'll require a consult from Mira who will sit back while Eve shows off her great insights. Eve will preach about how important the badge is, how this is her city and she stands for the dead, yada yada yada. Then she'll tie up the case, but it'll come down to the killer trying to get Eve before she can get them, but in the end Eve always wins.
Sorry, did I spoil that for you?
