Long and absorbing novel with flawed but endearing characters. Quite a leap from Zevin's charming, quirky [b:The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry 18293427 The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry Gabrielle Zevin https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1404582137l/18293427.SX50.jpg 25694131] and her Monica Lewinsky-inspired [b:Young Jane Young 33590214 Young Jane Young Gabrielle Zevin https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1490731852l/33590214.SY75.jpg 54403196]. I am not at all interested in video games but didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story. Be warned that the last 100 pages are very sad and the ending is at best hopeful.
