I'm soooooo glad this one had Such a better ending than the first one!!! As soon as my neck stops bothering me, I'm going to start the third one!!!
Listened to this as an audiobook.
I was a little worried that with changing so much about the setting and characters of the story (from the first book) that it wouldn't hold up, but it expanded the story in a great way. For a while I was worried this was going to go the Sword of Truth series direction - the second book of that series should really just be titled [SPOILERS] Richard and Kahlan Don't Fuck. But all is well, Valley of Horses turned into cro magnon porn! I am not sure I can really endorse that aspect as great writing or plot or anything, but I have a soft spot for the hilarity that is sex scenes in novels. Especially when they are read aloud.
I still like the plot and setting, but to me, this book dragged on a little more than necessary. I know everything that happened had to happen, but I think all that could've been said in less pages. Then again, maybe some like the elaborate descriptions of hunting and tool making. Granted, it is interesting. Even the romancey fluffy parts weren't bad. I think I will read the next book in the series, but I'll probably come back to it.
Being a young teenager at the time of reading - I absolutely loved the ‘idea' that Ayla was the first person to ever ride on a horse - AND she was a woman! Yeeehaa!
