‘'Soon, Fanfan and Mr Long Ears reach a clearing filled with other toys. There are grumpy -looking bears, smiling dolls, friendly hippos, little clowns and even unicorns!
The oldest toy of all, Slowpoke the Tortoise, speaks.‘'Welcome, friends! Here we are again, gathered for our long journey. The stars and the moon will light our way. Is everybody ready? Then let's go!''
It is Christmas Eve but Noel is sad. He has lost his favourite Mr Long Ears, the little elephant, and he can't find it. But Noel cannot know that Mr Long Ears has left to attend a very special meeting. Each year, on Christmas Eve, toys from all over the world follow the same route in order to gather in a very special house. They are going to meet a very special person and deliver an extremely important and special message. The wishes of children.
And yes, I used the word ‘'special'' four times. Because everything is special on Christmas.
A beautiful tale about the unique bond between children and toys, marvellously illustrated by Geneviève Godbout. And if you are one of those boring people who think that toys are just colourful, inanimate objects, you need to work on your imagination and stop being boring.
Many thanks to Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
