I am writing this review right after I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and I don't even know how to even form words about this book. Let's just say I bawled like a baby which hasn't happened because of a book in a long time. This book isn't happy in the slightest so don't go into it thinking that. But that is what makes it so fantastic. I don't read adult fiction much or books with the elements that this had in it, but it turned into a beautiful story. Because it explored the realness of people. People are complex creatures and we are never perfect. None of the characters in this book are.

I read a lot of books that I love because I love the characters and the plot but a lot of times I don't get a super distinct message. But in this book, I truly remember the power of words. Taylor Jenkins Reids writing was spectacular and descriptive. I thought I was actually reading articles and I could go watch Evelyn Hugo's movies. Evelyn Hugo has a lot of ups and downs in her life. But I love how she saved herself every time. This book has very feminist values and I appreciated that very much. This book also explored bisexuality and being in a racial minority. It showed divorce and motherhood. Greed and violence. Loss and pain. And the reality of Hollywood and how our society has forced people into boxes that they stay in for their entire lives because they don't want to be ridiculed.

The one thing I didn't love about this book was the main character who interviewed Evelyn but I liked how she connected with Evelyn and how she processed everything. As well as her being biracial (black and white) JUST LIKE ME!! I just didn't like her personality too much.

There are so many important issues that are discussed in here and lots of trigger warnings including adultery, domestic abuse, death/grief, homophobia/biphobia, racism, suicide, cancer, sexism and homophobia in historical context, fat shaming according to Hollywood beauty standards.

I don't think there is much else to tell you then to just go read it. Even if you hate it you will take something away from it.
