The Scent of Lilacs

When I first saw this book come up for review I jumped at the opportunity. Hearing Ann's name I was immediately remembering just how much I enjoyed reading Words Spoken True and I was thinking how this was another historical and was a sequel to another one I've collected on my Kindle, but after the calm and I came back to this one in a discussion with a friend I realized I was mistaken. Yes, this is Ann that I was thinking of and yes she does write a great historical, and this is a “recent” historical set in 1964. But, my mistake was that this is actually re-release of a book published several years ago. Actually this is the first in a series called Hollyhill. It appears that Revell will be re-releasing the entire trilogy as time goes along. Now in March with The Scent of Lilacs and next in October with Orchard of Hope to be followed (I can only assume in 2014) with Summer of Joy. I have to say looking at the old covers and the new of the two currently released the new ones are by far something I would reach for! The former covers are lovely, but not something that would grab my attention looking for deep characters in a historical story. Oh, and by the way... I am still looking forward to reading Small Town Girl this summer as it releases in June as it is the historical that is an apparent sequel to the early book with Kate Merritt, called Angel Sister based in the 1936-1941 time period.
