I want to begin by saying this: if you haven't read this book, DO IT. NOW.
I haven't read a book like this one in a while. It is fast paced, it has great characters and an amazing plot, the plot twists are mind blowing and it's just WOW. Saying that this book is good would be a huge understatement. It's amazing. It's magical. It's everything you didn't know you needed.
I am so happy that I picked it up. I somehow knew that I was going to like it, because a lot of my friends kept recommending it around bookstagram and I trust their opinions. They weren't wrong on this one. It's a very, very awesome book that deserves more hype and more appreciation.
Following the story of Kiva, the Zalindov prison healer, this book takes you on a beautiful and heartbreaking journey around the prison, giving you the chance to get to know the amazing Kiva, a young girl who does everything in her power to help even the ones who harm her. Kiva is such a strong and beautiful character and I felt so bad for her most of the time, because she didn't deserve anything that was happening to her.
We also get to know other amazing characters such as:
- Tipp, a very young boy that helps Kiva around the infirmary, who is her only friend in the beginning
- Jaren, a new inmate that Kiva doesn't want to get close to, but she can't help it; he's too charming
- Naari, the prison guard that isn't like the others, who just want to harm and make the inmate suffer; Naari is, surprisingly, a kind person
This book will make you fall in love with these characters and their stories, it will make you cry and laugh with them and it will suck you in so hard that you're going to believe you're right there at Zalindov, while peacefully reading from your bed/sofa.
I loved everything about this book and a 5 star rating for this doesn't feel enough, but it's the most I can do. And I will definitely try to make everyone read this, because YOU ALL NEED TO
And... you can try to prepare yourselves for the ending, but you will NEVER be prepared for something like that. It left me speechless and I NEED the next book ASAP. I just need it.
YES YES and again YES! I loved this from the first page until the last, its the perfect blend of all the things I like - magic, trials, romance, drama, mystery and political intrigue. I can just see this series getting better and better!
I was intrigued by the plot of this book from just the first sentence. Learning the ins and outs of the prison from the inside was a new perspective in a magical world. The Prison Healer really makes you think about the story and where the storyline was going the entire time. There were times when I was thinking about what the end would be and was only on the edge of the actual outcome. Hearing the stories about the royal family and I was skeptical. There were twists and turns I definitely didn't see coming. I very much enjoyed this book and finished it one sitting, The ending left me wanting more and I am so ready to read the second one!
