I honestly don't know what to say about this book besides that it is absolutely adorable and full of cinnamon rolls left and right. It is sweet, fluffy, amazing, and I probably got cavities from reading it. Are you not yet convinced to go read this book? Okay, let me think of some more things to say...
The characters are actually adorable and lovable. They have goals and dreams, but also make mistakes. The romance is definitely a slow build and honestly not front and center (YES!) it is in the background, but it is still shown to grow from friendship (AGAIN I'M SCREAMING FROM JOY!).
I laughed a few times reading this and I swear I had a smile on my face the entire time reading it – except the few times I gasped “oh no... don't” because there is conflict, change, and mean people. But, I laughed and from the moment the two main characters met, the became precious to me. No, I can't tell you what happened, but just know that the moment Frances walks into the room to met the prince I loved them and it is one of the best scenes.
I also enjoyed the artwork. Let me tell you, I will be looking for more work by Jen Wang. She made everything so cute, but lovely as well. When characters are confused, you can see their confusion–and it isn't overdone, the drawing can be subtle, but you see it still. The colors too, are so spectacular.
There is a plot as well, this isn't character-driven. So, yes there is conflict and it can be painful, perhaps more so to people who can identify with the characters. I think it was very well done, not rushed, not too slow.
So, have I convinced you to read it yet? Because let me tell you, I've already recommended this book to people and I plan to continue to recommend it. Do yourself a favor and read this adorable, feel-good book.
