I picked this one up because it is highlighted in a textbook I used for class about key books or authors in a genre. I hummed and hawed over it, but finally gave in when I wanted to read a historical romance.
The main character is a widow, so we aren't dealing with coming out parties or first love. This is about growing into one's character or finding out how strong one can be, which is why I consider this to be ‘women's fiction' as well. The romance has a few insta-love qualities, but the characters go more from enemies to lovers, which is a trope I enjoy. Both characters grow and change for the better while also falling in love with each other for more than just their looks or money.
The writing was entertaining and I was smiling often. I will most definitely pick up the next book in this series.
