There is a lure to me in these enemies to lovers, forced marriage type books (themes of acotar, b&b) and this book fills alllll those guilty pleasures. I won't say this is the most original book as you can find many in the genre and there's nothing “new” to the characters, but it is still a fun book.
I initially let some reviews I read of this book cloud my early judgement so getting a few things straight. Is this a wholly original story? No. Would you be knocked away by the writing? No. Was it still a blast to read? Yes.
It was a gripping story and evoked the right emotions at times. My only gripe was with the timeline. At points it felt like many months had passed and I was immediately pulled out of the story when our main character mentioned it had been two months.
I definitely understand some of the reviews as I frequently had “oh just like —insert book here—“ thoughts several times, but do I regret spending the time reading it? Nope!
Main character is an infuriating, gigantic brat. Mouthing off, doing dumb shit, acting like a jackass, and being rude doesn't mean you're strong. It means you're too fucking stupid to properly play the game you so badly want to win. Fuck off with this shit.
This book was so good. I love a slow burn that is actually well executed. Wren is the strong female character that I adore. We see her love for her family and how she struggles with finding herself and it's beautiful. 4 star read for me because it did seem to drag at times. It does give HadesxPersephone vibes but not in the GrumpyxSunshine way. Boreas and Wren are both strong, protective, and set in their ways. Think A Touch of Darkness with more plot but less spice.
