Just read this again for my book club. I was dreading it a little bit - although very beautifully written, this is a novel which is layered with meaning and requires effort to appreciate. I don't think I spent enough effort the first time, so I felt I should try to immerse myself more this go around. I definitely liked it more! Read it slower and really tried to pay attention to the parallels between the two stories and how they both expose hidden meanings about Soviet society. My favorite part remains the Pontius Pilate story itself, such a beautiful retelling and filled with very human moments.
