It's cool to know how Narnia was created, how the wardrobe, witch, and lamppost came to be, etc., but there's not much of a story here. Might've worked better as a short story. Without having read the rest of the Chronicles apart from Wardrobe, I'm assuming Digory, Polly, and Uncle Andrew are throwaway characters? Here they are merely vehicles to get us to the creation of Narnia.
Buku ini terasa beda dgn yg lain terasa agk membosankan. Buku ini menceritakan awal adanya Narnia & portal ke Narnia dr dunia manusia berbentuk lemari.
Childish and good for some page flipping. I guess it would make a good book for reading to my child while putting him to sleep.
Short review: It has been a long time since I have read this. Picked it up when it was on sale for kindle recently. It is the creation story of Narnia. So after having read John Walton's Lost World of Genesis One, I think Magician's Nephew would be a good book to use to talk to children or teens about our Christian creation story and how we understand creation, especially if you shared the ideas from John Walton. Lewis is showing a creation myth, in the academic sense of the word myth and Walton is showing that our Genesis 1 creation story is also not meant to convey the physical process of creation, but the purpose of creation (to create earth as God's temple and to set up humans as God's priests and servants). Still my least favorite of the Narnia series, but I think it has some real purpose that I wouldn't have seen if I had read it a year ago.

this is actually the first book in chronologically order. but love readin it as the 6 th book how c.s lewis wrote it
I LOVE this book, as I love all of The Chronicles of Narnia. But this is NOT the first book in the series. Please, for the love of Narnia, do not read this one before you read The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe if it is your first time reading the series! For further explanation read this: http://www.jenniferneyhart.com/2014/10/c-s-lewis-chronicles-of-narnia-correct.html
1/14/22 - I just finished re-reading The Magician's Nephew by C. S. Lewis for the umpteenth time. I love this creation myth of Narnia. I love how Aslan sings Narnia into being. But this time, the quote that stood out to me the most was this one:
“My son, my son,” said Aslan. “I know. Grief is great. Only you and I in this land know that yet. Let us be good to one another.” - Aslan to Digory in The Magician's Nephew, by C. S. Lewis.
Isn't it interesting how different things stand out to us at different times in our lives even when re-reading the same books over and over again? The past two years have given all of us a lot to grieve, collectively. And in the past 6 months I've mourned the death of a dear friend, and then my Grandma.
So these words of comfort from Aslan, which follow a description of “great shining tears” in Aslan's eyes as he feels the grief Digory is feeling over Digory's mother being on her deathbed - well they just hit me differently this time.

1992 read for the first time after falling in love with The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2nd grade
The Chronicles of Narnia series was another one of my likable books reading growing up. I read through this entire series in one month and definitely liked it. There were many things that definitely dragged on about these but overall I liked it but wouldn't say I'm a die hard fan.
