Why?

Some books a person just shouldn't buy because everything about them is exactly the kind of stuff they never like. (Even if it does take place in a city said reader is fascinated by and, let this be a lesson to her to do her proper research before buying a book.) Beyond that though, some book's writing style just doesn't work and when I find myself snickering over word choices, I know it's time for me to leave. Though I was predisposed to dislike any assassin whose ‘temper flared; with a guttural curse'. Seriously, my assassins need to be calm and cool. But the final straw was ‘beside him, his companion mewled in her sleep.' The only companion that should EVER mewl in her sleep, as far as I'm concerned, is a cat. This was not a cat.
