Saying you don't like Science Fiction is like saying you don't like classical music. There is so much variation in this genre as in any. You don't know Sci-Fi if you have read one book or a dozen, or 10 recommendations from friends. It is only when you have read every science fiction book ever written before you can say you don't like any of it.
The Left Hand of Darkness is science fiction, but it is more than that. It is a deeply touching story of love and friendship.
Reading this book reminded me of how much I love Ursula Le Guin, and it made me grateful of having read crap. It's like having lived on oatmeal and then being served a steak dinner. :-D If I had only read good books my whole life, I wouldn't know how good these books are :-D
