This was very enjoyable. Though I usually hate characters having modern names in historical settings, McKenna's was plausibly explained and fit the character well. The young woman herself is quite the character! She makes plenty of mistakes, while her brother makes even more, and it takes her awhile to learn from them and realize she can't fix the world all on her own.
I loved how Emma and Mei's stories were worked in. They are probably some of the most colorful secondary characters I've ever encountered...unique and well-rounded and believable.
The hero, Wyatt, is a very good hero. His time in law enforcement makes him an expert at tough love, but I liked watching him develop some tender love, too.
And I just have to say that I loved “meeting” McKenna as a younger girl at the end of “To Whisper Her Name”! :)
