The Household Guide to Dying

What's an advice columnist to do when she discovers she is dying? Write a book providing advice about dying, of course.

And that's what Delia does, in this little novel that's a poignant mix of clever columns and stories from Delia's difficult past along with stories about her life as a dying woman.

Oh, I am so excited. I won this book in a goodreads giveaway. The description makes me think I will really like this book.

The beginning of this book started a little slow. But once I began reading, I didn't want to stop. Delia is a wife and a mother, who is dying from Breast Cancer. She is an advice columnist, and has written some reference books referred to as The Household Guides. As she is deciding what needs to be done in her personal life before she dies, she realizes others might also like a reference guide. She begins writing the Household Guide to Dying. During her final months of life, she has some previous events on which she desires to reflect.

There were several very sad and traumatic events which made me cry. Delia seems a little crazy at times, but I am not sure I would have handled being in her situation any better. The decorating of the coffin (casket) was very humorous.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has cancer, anyone who knows someone with cancer, and anyone who just loves a unique story. >/p>
