Abandoned halfway. The age of innocence is a far better book. I lost interest, none of the characters felt real.

I liked the book a lot but the final chapters really dragged, to the point where I wondered if she got paid by the word.

Absolutely loved this book. Edith Wharton's shows us the inner life of her characters with such skill, that I'm in awe of her talent. Her prose is flowery at times- a product of her time -but compelling nonetheless.

After reading Eugenides new ‘The Marriage Plot' I had this craving for Victorian novels. If they have unhappy endings, even better.
