The Gunslinger

I started this series because of the numerous recommendations I have had from a variety of readers. Overall I thought this book had a very slow progression and a not so interesting plot. The dark tower itself interests me as it seems to bring together various worlds, but the main plot of let's chase a man in black through different terrain bored me. I'm also not a fan of long flashback scenes and King is well known for them. I do understand it is his way of revealing a character's past to show how it has shaped them, I just don't like it. What I do like is the way King uses the English language, it is both complex and simple. The way he pieces together sentences and the describing words he uses are original. He is certainly a master in the art of the English langague. I will give the second book a go since this one laid the ground rules down, perhaps the next will have more of an appeal to me.
