A quick, fun romp in the forest. King throws the supernatural out the door in favor of real life terror: being 9 years old and lost in the woods all alone. This one isn't nearly as terrifying as King's other work, but a decent read nonetheless. I wouldn't put it among his best nor worst, but I would recommend it to anyone just looking for a mindless weekend read.
I've been tearing through as much King as I possibly can this year. I was impressed by this one's focus and visceral power.
The pop culture referances feel forces and displaced, like king tries to be relatable but falls flat. The girl feels not real. The story is bad. And a lot of his misogany is in the wording. It is so boring. I do not care about baseball and king can not sell it to people that are not fans of baseball already. For whom is this book? There is no tention. no emotional Investment. I just want it to end. It is clearly a men writing about a character he absolutely has no inside of. It is not a story you can fall in it is a book you always absolutely aware of being a story writen by a old men who trys do be hip, cringe.
Another great Stephen King story. I really felt his portrayal of Trisha was spot on. It felt real and you really understand her feelings, actions and emotional state throughout her ordeal. Highlight recommended.
4.5 stars
As I do with all of King's books, I went into this one blind. I had no expectations going into this, but it ended up not being what I was expecting. Make that make sense lol. Anyways this book basically follows 1 character. A 9-year-old little girl who gets lost in the woods. We are following her journey and how she copes with everything.
I listened to the audiobook of this one which was narrated by the late Anne Heche and I think she did a phenomenal job bringing this story to life and portraying the panic and fear that this character felt. I have to say for a 9-year-old Trisha was very resourceful. If I was the one lost in the woods let's just say I wouldn't have fared quite so well.
The only reason I'm giving it 4.5 stars instead of 5 is because I could have done without all of the baseball. Don't get me wrong it fits in with the story but I'm not a sports fan so having to listen to a ball game that I didn't understand took me out of the story a little bit.
King is hit or miss for me, but I tend to enjoy his shorter books more than his longer books and that was definitely the case with this book. I enjoyed it so much. I was kind of expecting it to end differently but I much prefer the ending we got. This is an ending that King got perfect in my opinion. While King isn't a favorite author of mine, he is my most read author and he is one hell of a storyteller.
I was looking for a ‘Stephen King Lite' book as my daughter showed an interest in reading one of his and I obviously didn't want to traumatise her ;) Unfortunately, this isn't just light on adult themes but also light on the other things King is known for, like suspense and intrigue.
Although the ending picked up a bit I think I'll suggest she waits a few years and reads ‘full fat King' when she's ready.
How many of us have been lost in the woods before, or have dreamed they were? This is an excellent story of what one might be faced with. The MC is a young girl who has to learn how to tap into her inner strength, fight through hunger, sickness, loneliness, and despair while at the same time fight for the chance to go home. This is a bit different from King's other type of books but it is a very enjoyable read.
Well Trisha is a boss that's for sure!
Another great King read and a really enjoyable quick story line, you'd think a 200+ page book with only one character lost in the woods (she's 9 years old) would be boring but as always King builds complex interesting characters.
Providing yet again King can write any genre he puts his mind to The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is a SOLID ⭐⭐⭐⭐
My experience with Stephen King involved only Carrie, which I'd found to be okay-ish and rather crazy, so I can't say I was expecting much when I began to read this one. But boy-oh-boy did it turn out to be great! Goes to show, first impressions don't always show it true.
