I adore Cat Valente and I have an extremely high tolerance for her florid prose and general ridiculousness. I love both [b:Palimpsest 3973532 Palimpsest Catherynne M. But this was just... so .... hard ..... to get through. I could not keep my attention on it, I could not care, nothing made sense or had any consequences, just a bunch of random stuff happened. It was, I dunno, just too twee for me. Like it was trying to hard to be a fairytale and also subvert fairytale tropes and didn't quite accomplish either. It's weird to me that I keep running into people who love this series, so maybe I should read the sequels someday and see if they get better?
