I love Weirner's writing. He transports you to a place while unlocking the science and stories behind a phenomenon. He's incredibly funny and insightful. I read it during my commute to and from university and it was the perfect traveling companion

Having taken on the geography of happiness in The Geography of Bliss, author Eric Weiner now turns his attention to the geography of genius. Weiner takes a close look at places on the earth that have been hotspots of creativity in the past and then visits these places with an eye out for causation. A fascinating read.

Překvapuje mě, že si mnoho lidí stále myslí, jak je kreativita genetická záležitost. Tato kniha vás přesvědčí o tom, že je to spíše tím, v jaké společnosti se pohybujete (místa, kde se debatuje; investuje do umění; kombinují nápady a nebojí se selhání). Je to krásně ukázáno na příkladech míst, které toho jsou důkazem. Od Atén, přes Chang-čou, Florencii, Edinburgh, Kalkatu až po Silicon Valley.
Na knize je krásný dějepisný pohled, protože jsem neměl zdání o některých míst, které byly inspirujícím místem a proč tomu tak bylo. Člověk má touhu pak tyto místa navštívit a zkusit nasát jejich atmosféru, kde doslova vznikaly dějiny.
