The Fault in Our Stars

After all the hype, I finally decided to read this book. It definitely made me laugh out loud at times and get “misty-eyed” in places, too.

The audiobook was INCREDIBLE. I started reading via e-book, but then switched to audiobook to entertain me on my long drive to and from work, and I'm glad I did. The narrator is fantastic and gets the emotion down so perfectly. There is a version narrated by the author himself, but don't bother. This is worth a listen.

One of my gripes with the books - and this is rather common in YA - is that there are a lot of pop culture references that are starting to be dated. The book mentions “America's Next Top Model” and 300, already showing the book's age. The author went to the trouble of creating fictional books and games, why not just create fictional TV shows as well? I found it distracting, since they were mentioned a lot.

Also, while I'm glad the characters waited so long to kiss, did they REALLY have to sleep with each other that SAME day? .
