The comparisons to The Raven Cycle were only accurate insofar as there is a group of teens with some queer characters and magic exists. Eliopulos writes in a much more conversational style than Maggie Stiefvater's lyrical, dream-like prose, and the plot is much more straightforward. None of these would be problems, except I felt the characters lacked depth and the pacing was inconsistent, to the point where I thought this was the first of a series when I got to the end. There was a lot of potential here, but overall I felt unsatisfied by the book as a whole. 2 magic spell apps out of 5.
