Rae Wilder has problems.... Supernatural creatures swarm earth, and humanity is on the brink of extinction. Stalked by a handsome fairy who claims she is like him, demonkind, she thinks maybe it was a mistake breaking the rules by going over the Wall into demon territory. Plunged into a world of dark magics, fierce creatures, and ritual sacrifice, she is charged with a guarding a magical amulet. The changes to her mind and body are startling, but rather than accept her purpose she struggles against who she is destined to be. Throw in a big lust for a vampire who can't keep his hands off her, and life starts to get complicated. Rae is forced to make the ultimate choice: to live and die human, or embrace her birth-right and wield magics that could turn her into something wicked, a force of nature nothing can control.

I can't do this. Back in summer 2019, I began reading this book, eager to see whether it was truly as bad as others claimed. I wanted to force myself through the experience even when the writing style became extremely grating. I wanted to conquer my annoyances and come out of this experience with a well-rounded and fair review to offer. Hell, I wanted to see if perhaps it could get better, since I initially liked the general concept. Unfortunately, however, I gave up when I hit chapter four and never looked back until today.
After glancing at my old notes for this book, I've decided I don't have interest in continuing. The lore is inconsistent and the characterization makes very little sense, despite both of these things having promise if only the author had been provided with guidance from a competent editor. If this book were to be revised heavily, I'd consider giving it another shot. As is, though, I can't stand it.
This book was an enjoyable read EXCEPT for how completely annoying I found the main character, Rae Wilder, to be. She receives an entire description of a possible future regarding her and the vampire Tomas, by the White Witch Anna, and still doesn't seem to grab the big fat clue in front of her that says she probably should not engage in any interaction with the vampire and then screws things up for everyone. I was a bit annoyed with that. Other than that, I did enjoy reading the story, it was definitely different from other fae stories I had read, mainly being that anything non-human is considered demon. I thought that was an interesting premise. I am on the fence as to whether I'll read the rest of the series. I think I'll wait a little while, at least, before going into the next book.
I read this book a while ago when it was titled GLAMOUR. It had so much potential but needed edited in a BAD WAY! I accidentally ran across this book and recognized the author's name. I hoped it had been through a rewrite. This story has so much potential but it is not there yet. I will read the next in series hoping for improvememt.
