The crooked hinge.

It seemed kind of long and was a complicated story.
But it was always interesting.
Sometime creepy always clever.

It would help if I was a middle to upper class British citizen living in London in the 1920s to 1930s.
There are a lot of references to plays and books and society that I either had to look up or just skip over.

I don't normally read mysteries but I'm glad I read this one.

Я крайне редко ставлю детективам пять звёзд, хотя и очень люблю их читать. Классические детективы - это все же отдых, как просмотр очень хорошего и захватывающего фильма, когда не терпится узнать чем же дело закончится, при этом то, что в середине между началом и концом вторично. Здесь загадка получилась многослойной и сложносоставной. Столько мелочей, столько нюансов - бывало даже сложно уследить за полетом мыслей автора. Но в итоге все очень здорово. Я опять не догадалась, а это лучший знак качества для меня.

I really enjoyed this mystery novel, though I found the ending a little ridiculous. I found it quick and engaging, if not a quite tangled story. Sir John Farnleigh is a wealthy man with an inherited estate and a good life, until another man shows up claiming to be the real John Farnleigh, and accuses the former of being an imposter. His former childhood tutor has the fingerprints of the real John, and subjects the two of them to a fingerprint test, but before the results can be discovered, the fingerprint evidence is stolen and one of the John Farnleighs is found with his throat slashed. But which John Farnleigh is dead — the real one or the imposter? And was it a guilty suicide or a malicious murder?
