Disappointed (and somewhat shocked) in a pseudo-sequel that I was eager to get to. Didn't find as clear/creative storytelling tools and tricks and the new characters didn't seem that interesting, while also at time being hard to follow or place the new generation. The angle of consciousness technology was an interesting outlet/twist, but didn't seem to drive offer any huge revelations- it just seemed to be a thing. Nice callbacks in passing, but a bit confusing and too much jumping around from sci-fi bits to grounded bits without appearing to have a singlular message or direction of the book. With less than 100 pages left, finally enjoyed the creative way of delivering prose in a lengthy email exchange chapter that was also cleanear, clearer, and had a lot more engaging character development and storytelling than much of what preceded it.
