New rule: just because you're autistic, you don't get to be a jerkface. I'm so tired of heroes who “can't” love, whether it's because of past heartbreak or because they're neuro-atypical. So I didn't really care for Khai and I thought Esme deserved better. I liked Esme and her struggle to feel self-worth, but it seemed strange that she didn't miss her daughter more or struggle to get around in a brand new country. Basically the whole story felt strangely muted. After two books, I will have to admit that despite all of the hype, this author is just not my cup of tea.
