I loved this story, but like other reviewers I wonder about child appeal. We get the story from John and Marta's POV and because they are adults their opinions about the child are very adult. What I loved was the feeling of magic in a story totally set in reality. Of course my mind went immediately to the horrors the “boy” must have endured before meeting John and Marta. It feels like a fairy tale that could actually happen in real life, and not to give anything away but what happens next is satisfying but still difficult. The question is: will children enjoy this book? Will they be satisfied with all of the unanswered questions it delivers? If anything, I can tell this story will stay with me for a long, long time.
