I received this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review2.5 starsWho are the Beautiful Ones? I'm sorry, but after reading this book and seeing ‘Beautiful Ones' used twice within the story to mention people within a certain town, I'm so confused. Are those people known as the Beautiful Ones? Why is it the title even though most of the characters AREN'T from the city???? –Considering that the above is my first thought after finishing the novel (besides “...what the heck?”), I think it sums up my thoughts of this novel well. This book has a historical feel to it, but it set in a different world, or at least out world but all the places have different names, since everything about this book except the telekinesis seems like Victorian England. I can't call this a fantasy really either because only two main characters have telekinesis and apparently that is the only magic in the world? Also, women who can move objects with their minds are shunned? “It isn't lady-like” and the guys who can do it... we only know that at least those who flaunt it do magic shows. I really wanted more from the fantasy department... So, don't read this for the fantasy element. It has a big part, but doesn't at the same time. The characters were all different from one another. They were clearly defined, but I felt that they all changed drastically from Part 1 to Part 2. The spark for their change happened then Part 2: all changed fully. I was slightly confused... None of the characters grew on me either. I did not feel connected, yet I finished the book because I wanted to know how it would end. I'd recommend this book to people who like historical feels to their books, but don't need it to be accurate, but want that touch of otherness. If someone liked this book, I'd recommend [b:Burning Bright 29868735 Burning Bright (The Extraordinaries, #1) Melissa McShane https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1465244487s/29868735.jpg 50238003] by Melissa Shane which has that historical feel, but more fantasy elements.
