the mistborn universe is amazing, this seems like it is continuing the awesomeness we expect after the first trilogy.
Mijn oorspronkelijke opinie blijft overeind: zeer degelijk boek.
Thoroughly cinematic fantasy-mystery-action story gussied up in a duster. Fun listen.
Oh boi, I LOLed many times and I enjoyed this lots, pure fun and goofy and lots of style and guns.
Mistborn Era 1, book 1 felt rough but this really shows how Sandon Banderson has skilled up.
I am a self admitted Brando Sando fan...to me his works are like pizza--even when they are not the best, they are still really good!
I love the idea of a fantasy setting advancing over time, and not staying stuck in its initial era. Here we have fantasy, but in 300 years we have added technology, societal advancement, etc....and it makes the world seem much more real.
Era 2 I can tell already is gonna to be less epic than Era 1...which is good. It is not resting on the laurels of its predecessors, but finding its own path. It's mixture of the Wild West and Steampunk makes for a very entertaining story, with plenty of action. The mystery helps drive the plot, and the worldbuilding and characters are second to none, as usual.
Wayne kinda annoyed me at first, and it took a bit for the chemistry between him and Wax to click, but by the end of the book I could not see a story without them both, they seem two halves to a whole.
All in all, I really liked this. It is different than Era 1, and it gives me a different sense of satisifaction and enjoyment, and that is a good thing.
4.5 Stars
This is a really cool idea for a series: following the world through different eras in its development and seeing the ways that the “magic” is used differently with different levels of technology available. I really liked the Wild West theme and I really liked the characters! It was a little confusing going from Mistborn to this series because I felt like there were a few things that just weren't explained super well and because (by design) the complexity and depth of this series is a lot lower. But all in all, a fun read.
I would definitely say that this wouldn't make much sense if you haven't read the original Mistborn trilogy first.
Age range: 16+
Lots of violence, not to the level of the original trilogy but definitely still gory.
Great page turner and setting up the stage for the rest of the trilogy. More of a 4.5 but rounding up to a 5.
2.50/5.00
The Alloy of Law kicks off Mistborn Era 2 with a mellow start. The book does a reasonable job of what it wanted to do. There was some reasonable action, some good humor and generally likable characters. The worldbuilding is fun, with all the references to Era 1 is so fun. But this book seemed to be of a different tone. Reads more like a mystery-action novel with a basic kidnapping plot, which seems kind of a let compared what we have come to expect with Cosmere books.
SPOILERS!
I really liked Wayne, he is endearing and goofy! Looks like Marsh still lives. And who is Lord Mistborn ? lol. I got excited with Steris but then she exits the book immediately. Funny. Great action though!
wasn???t sure what i was expecting going into it since it???s set 300 years after the first trilogy but i loved how fast paced it was. interesting characters + it was cool to see how the world developed after the ending of era 1 (love the integration of firearms w allomancy). also the reveal(s) in the epilogue were mmm chefs kiss, very good??? sanderson always has mad endings to his books tbh. v excited to see what the next book holds.
This was a pretty cool idea to show the world 300yrs after a big, calamity with a happy ending from the original trilogy. Its much lighter than the predecessors and goes from a fantasy book into sort of a detective steampunk one with a bit of magic. A light and entertaining read.
I loved this book! A vastly different feel to era 1 but just as compelling. Never has a character made me laugh as Wayne has.
I inhaled this book.it was so much fun with a lew twists I didn't see coming. I love the homage to era 1.
Concise, briskly paced, exciting narrative. It is absolutely a breath of fresh air reading this after The Stormlight Archive.
I think I will be quitting the cosmere. I like the idea of Sanderson books but his characters and humor are not to my taste and I find it makes me slumpy when I read these books. I still own Stormlight so I'll give that a last shot but likely won't continue past the ones I already own.
3.5 stars!
Great action scenes, on-point humor & flintlock setting. BUT it somehow felt a bit underwhelming compared with Mistborn era 1: both the enemies & the topic itself seem more mundane. Not bad, but different!
Let's see where the story goes!
