A bewitching, dark and beautiful debut novel about a girl living in the shadow of a mysterious curse.
It's the accident season, the same time every year. Bones break, skin tears, bruises bloom.
The accident season has been part of seventeen-year-old Cara's life for as long as she can remember. Towards the end of October, foreshadowed by the deaths of many relatives before them, Cara's family becomes inexplicably accident-prone. They banish knives to locked drawers, cover sharp table edges with padding, switch off electrical items - but injuries follow wherever they go, and the accident season becomes an ever-growing obsession and fear.
But why are they so cursed? And how can they break free?

Honestly? I really did Not like this. The only reason it's 2 stars instead of 1 is that the character Bea was pretty cool. Otherwise, I thought the writing was a boring and poorly paced. Plus it had a trope that I Hate, that I hadn't expected it to have.
Dreamy, wonderful. I loved it. Not sure why it's a YA novel, I feel like the main characters could have been adults looking back...and maybe it would have explained some of their very adult behavior as well. I was really engrossed in this. Perfect for October. Thanks, Bookriot, for recommending!
