Probably not the best idea to read this book less than a month after my Mom's death. There is a major subplot about the FMC's beloved grandmother who has dementia and it was extremely painful for me to go from the witty romcom banter between the FMC and MMC to scenes of the grandmother becoming agitated and combative as she deteriorates. Also, I'm not sure if the author, an award-winning audiobook narrator, was making fun of romance novels or paying them homage.

Minor details that took me out of the story: FMC's name is Sewanee (pronounced Swan-y). Her grandmother's name is Barbara but she is called “BlahBlah” or just “Blah” (because childhood Sewannee couldn't pronounce her real name).

TW: Several distressing scenes portraying BlahBlah with advanced dementia; Sewanee agrees to BlahBlah's request that she not visit anymore, but once the elderly woman is so far gone that she doesn't remember the request, Sewanee ignores her wishes and continues to visit so she can "have the ending she'd wanted;" MMC proposes to Sewanee DURING BLAHBLAH'S FUNERAL (and she says yes).
