“I know that now. If it makes you feel any better, the only decision I've regretted the last five years is not giving us a chance, not giving up that school. It was us...always us.”
I really love Shep and Denny
Okay, this one I wasn't sure if I would like going into.
From book 1, we know the hero isn't the best guy in the world – in fact, he is one who might seem irredeemable.
I ended up liking this couple and forgiving the guy, because he is grown up now and actually apologetic. He knows he messed up and wants to be a better person, so I think that is forgivable.
The romance though... I think I mostly have a problem with second chance romances, because the initial pain in the past doesn't always seem as forgivable to me. Here? It does work, but... not at the same time. Perhaps, I just hold grudges too strongly.
There are also some things I didn't completely get, or felt like they were thrown in just to create drama, but I didn't seem natural, like her and the guard/doorman being captain and bucky – that felt just thrown in to hurt Shep.
Yet, I still really enjoyed this book. True, it isn't as funny as the others either, but I bet if I read this one without having read the others I might have liked it even more.
