Pretty decent RH though the writing seemed a little choppy due to lack of small transitions from one conversation topic to the next. The characters though were nicely fleshed-out and distinctive with their own relatable traumas and personalities. The MC was an interesting heroine who didn't want to be after being held captive by her uncle for so many years. But to paraphrase a great quote in the book, she was never broken, never lost herself to the tragedy of her horrific experiences. She learned, adapted and had to heal but she came out stronger in spite of it all.
Stacey Brutger has books with such interesting plots, the synopses keep dragging me in, but I have some problems with her writing. Unfortunately, this one didn't even feel like the author's normal works. Usually I give them 3+ stars, but this one I actually considered dropping. It is disjointed, confusing, and annoying.
I have a new pet peeve and it is “Explain” omg it sounds so rude and it is jarring, yet all the characters say it.
The last bit of the book was interesting though and Edgar out of nowhere stealing the spot of favorite character. I'm kind of interested to know if he is ever explained more, but I think I'll just be more annoyed.
I've got to stop reading this author for now. Maybe I'll try a new series by her in the future.
