Sweet, sweet story of a girl on a farm who lives in a suburb kind of world. She is surrounded by outcasts who are odd but wonderful. Her best friends are: the future president of the US, a Civil Rights leader, a library-lunch hermit, and a “monster” who acts like a young man should act. Truly excellent.Reminded me of Because of Winn Dixie only with more humor and less sap.
Highly recommended for anyone sick of angels or vampires (or who needs a break), anyone who daydreams about farm life, anyone who enjoys a great coming of age story.
Plus, bonus, this book takes the “romance” in a direction I wish more book would emulate. I so see the Mother Daughter Book Club reading this in Spring.
