The followup to Sword of Truth, Stone of Tears was a heart-wrenching ride into the wider world of Goodkind's creation. I was still enjoying the series at this point and think it is actually a worthy followup to the first in the series.
I decided to give two stars as the book seemed OK in the beginning. However, I had the impression that there was little value in reading further. The interesting got lost somewhere on the way...
Worst book I ever read. One of the few things I really regret. My life is worse for having read it. I had to quit half way through, and I wish I had quit on the first page.
I liked it, but I have mixed feelings. Good- the story sucked me in and pulled me along. Bad- it was hit or miss whether a character or plot element felt complete and not contrived. Probably mostly good, but there was some dissonance in my head.
If you read Wizard's First Rule, definitely read this one...its next in the series and better.
Many fantasy series don't include real consequences or real reactions- this book defies that with the consequences of the 1st. And it still feels organic in how the plot and characters react to everything. I rarely get surprised by how characters change and this book did...
Amazing, adventurous read. I love this series. I think the detail and sense of adventure is comparable to the Lord of the Rings series. It's that good.
