Station Eleven

I don't usually read post-apocalypse books and put off reading this one for a month or so when I received it as part of my First Editions Book Club from Parnassus Books, but trusting Ann Patchett and seeing this book listed as a top 10 book of 2014 I dove into it a few days ago. It is so well-written it was a pleasure to read. There is a Star Trek quote a group of survivors use to explain why they wander from town to town in the forsaken landscape of the post-apocalypse world – “Survival is not enough.” And they put that into action, bringing heart and soul and love and beauty into a world that's mostly broken down and used up and dead. Great read!
