I liked this one more than the first one. A solid thriller and I'm curious to see how it goes in the next books.
Things start to pick up a bit in this book. It gets much more into a Criminal Minds vibe which I liked. It still feels odd to rate this as a standalone book. This book has some level of resolution with Hadley's step-father storyline.
Didn't blow me away, but a pretty quick, fun read. Once again this installment ends on a cliff hanger, which automatically hooked me to starting the next book immediately.
I stand by what I said on the last book. Trash cover art and title, but a really gripping thriller series. I'm hooked! Onto the next one...

Sidetracked is the second novella in The Mindf*ck Series by S. T. Abby. Lana is being questioned by member of Logan's team and now the serial killer known as "The Boogie Man" is after Lana because of she's dating Logan. While all this is happening, Lana is still going along with her plan of revenge. She's still risking everything to remove child abusers from the world. Will Logan find out about Lana hidden murder spree? Will The Boogie Man attack Lana to get at Logan?
Overall, this story was just as entertaining as the first novella. Part two was a little more complicated than part one because there is so much more information, story elements, and characters being added to the story. The story is beginning to get complicated with all the characters that have been added, and because the story is a novella it moves at a fast past. Maybe too fast? I'm worried that with the next installation of the story, I'll start to get lost with the names of the growing cast of characters within such a short book.
Like the first novella, or part one, there were a few spicy scenes. I think it's wonderful that Lana feels safe with Logan enough to trust him and be intimate with him. I still don't think spicy scenes fit in-between scenes of the ped0s and child abusers getting murdered. I'm giving it one chili 🌶️🌶️ out of five chilies
Overall, this novella was just as good as the first one, although the subject matter is a bit triggering. I'm giving this 4 stars out of 5

I listened to this audiobook for free on [HooplaDigital.com]
I picked up this book to get out of my true crime and black history for a moment and sheesh. I enjoyed it from start to finish and the ending made me want to fight the author lol. This series is engaging. It keeps you locked in. There are so spicy parts but not enough to make me hide the book from my momma. Check it out.
I found this one more entertaining than the first one: the pacing is great, the cliffhanger engaging and I love the characters, flaws and all. However, at one time Lana insinuates that being disfigured would have made her a “monster” even on the outside and it didn't sit well with me.
I read The Risk last year but I decided to reread it before continuing on in the series this year just so things were fresh in my mind when jumping into the second book. Destiny and I had planned to buddy read the entire series as part of our 29 in 29 challenge we are attempting this month but after reading the first book she decided to DNF the series but I continued on with them.
This is a 5 book series and each of the books are less than 200 pages and can easily be read in one sitting. I was instantly hooked after reading book one and very intrigued by the premise. I don't think I've ever read a book where there is a romance between and FBI agent and a serial killer. I really needed to know how this could possibly work out.
From the first book you can tell that something happened to Lana when she was younger. We don't know the full extent but we get a good idea of what it was. It isn't until the 4th and 5th book where we find out the true extent of everything that happened. The author doesn't hold back on the details about what happened so please if you are someone who is easily triggered look into the triggers of this series before picking it up.
As I mentioned this is a romance between an FBI agent and a serial killer. Obviously Logan isn't aware that Lana is the killer he's been looking for. The romance is very insta love. Logan didn't start bothering me until the second book and from there on he did something in each of the books that annoyed me and pissed me off. I was most intrigued by finding out how a romance between a serial killer and an FBI agent could work and lets just say by the end I wasn't disappointed.
You definitely have to suspend disbelief while reading these books but it made for a fun read. Each book ends on a cliffhanger which was so frustrating for someone who hates cliffhangers. The final book was actually my favorite of all 5 books but as a whole the series get a 4 star rating from me.
rating - 4.5 / 5These just keep getting better and better T_T.
The cliffhangers are honestly gonna be the death of me. I thought book 1 had an anxiety inducing ending. boy was i wrong—
I loved how there were multiple cases/storylines going on at the same time and how they all tied together. It seemed realistic for the fbi to have multiple cases at once and was done really well. Loved the different characters. Lisa, Hadley, Duke all stood out, despite having less page time (?)
Honestly i don't even know if i want Logan to find out:P The sneaking around is so much fun + i kinda wanna avoid the conflict. Although, i do love how he's so close by the end of this book. Man literally knows everything about our unsub except for physical attributes. The deduction skills and profiling are also really well depicted i think, because i was convinced that's how it happens irl.
On to book 3 > Read these books if you haven't yet¡ they're so fun.
Cliffhanger endings get me every time.
The jealousy, the serial killer cases, an impromptu kill, and the spice
It's a good story but shit someone needs to edit it. Towards the end the typos were bad bad.
Looking past the editing errors, this is so good! A quick little instalment in a great series. Can't wait for the next!
3.5
I love how each books ends with a cliffhanger coz I already started book #3
read for bookoplathon 48 hour round, may 2022: book <300 pages
i really enjoyed reading this one and the continuation of lana's story. lana was more confined and less murdery so i enjoyed it less than the first but i still loved seeing lana and logan together more
the first half was a bit boring but the second half bumped it to 3 stars + THE ENDING!!!! i knew it
