A fantastic, fact-based fictional drama of a foreigner integrating into historic Japan. In the end, it is mostly a love story. Nevertheless, the book is filled with deep cultural insights.
Quite a long read, so mostly recommended for people interested in other cultures.

Editing would have helped. Too long, and rather repetitive in places. Great story though.

One of my favorite historical fictions. Took me about 300 pages to actually care when I was tackling this behemoth, but when I got there I loved every single word of it and could barely stop reading.
